This video was shot at a Help the Needy fundraising event in Ocotober 2002. Help the Needy, the charity that Dr. Dhafir founded, was one of the few charities getting aid through to starving Iraqi civilians during the brutal US embargo on that country. The video is 50 minutes long and Dr. Dhafir speaks for most of that time.
Dr. Rafil Dhafir, a Central New York Oncologist, was arrested in February
2003 and was held for 31 months without bail before being sentenced on
October 27, 2005 to 22 years in federal prison. Most of the 150 people in
the gallery stood when Dr. Dhafir entered the courtroom for his sentencing.
His quiet dignity was apparent throughout the proceedings.
I attended his trial for 17 weeks, and I am convinced that Dr. Dhafir's Iraqi descent and Muslim faith meant that he did not receive equal justice. Had his name been Ralph Duffy, I believe his treatment would have been much different.
The media has been no help in informing the public about this case. Please help Dr. Dhafir get his story told by telling others about my website: www.dhafirtrial.net.

Here is a quote from Dr. Dhafir's sentencing statement:
"What was the result of Feb 26, 2003 besides imprisoning of innocent people? Scores of innocent elderly American cancer patients died needlessly, innumerable tens of thousands of Iraqi needy (children, women and men) died, and more than that suffered malnutrition and the humiliation of poverty. An entire segment of our society here was treated as criminals, intimidated, interrogated and threatened. Never in the history of the Islamic Society of Central New York had we had so many cases of depression and suicide that the mosque had to engage the services of a psychiatrist to help out. The dream of this Republic being a sanctuary for the oppressed was shattered on that day and a new sad reality was erected in it¹s place." P.36.
